The Altar Servers’ Guild
St. Mary the Virgin Church is indeed fortunate to have a growing and dedicated “team of Altar Servers!” The “Ministry of Server at the Altar of God” is one of the greatest privileges of the Church – to serve the people of God and to assist our priest. The important Sunday responsibilities of: candle lighting / extinguishing, processing / recessing with the Cross and assisting with Holy Eucharist, the Gospel Procession and Offertory, are humbling and enjoyable expressions of our Christian faith! Servers are committed to assist when needed: as crucifers at Evensong, Funerals and Memorial Services and as the Bishop’s attendant at Confirmations, etc.
The Family Ministries Team has worked with St. Mary’s youth and provided opportunity for them to extensively participate in the Family Services. It has been a pleasure for our adult Altar Servers to assist in the training of young people as crucifers and torchbearers. We have been blessed to have some of them commit to training as Altar Servers and it has been a privilege to share in their training.
The Servers assist with clean-up at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.
